Normal adult foreskin retraction. Notice the healthy color and texture.
For almost all adult males, the foreskin fully retracts over the glans. The foreskin can be manually retracted at any time. During an erection, the foreskin often, but not always, retracts on its own.
As the foreskin retracts, it exposes the frenulum and inner foreskin with its ridged band—both rich in nerves. This presents the nerve endings so that they will be in contact with the female’s clitoris and vagina—also both rich in nerves—during sex.
The normal glans is moist, supple, and reddish-purple in color. This is in contrast to the circumcised penis’s dry, rough, and whitish glans.
