Circumcision Not Recommended
Balanitis is often used as an excuse to circumcise. It is literally “inflammation of the acorn” or glans penis. Diagnosis of balanitis requires redness and swelling.. Beware of a mis-diagnosis of balanitis, which might simply be an irritation (redness). Balanitis does not cause phimosis, and no single pathogen is involved. Usually a man suffers only one episode.
Balanitis may be treated by eliminating the substance that could be causing the irritation (soap, shampoo, chlorinated swimming pool or hot tub). In the case of candidal balanitis (yeast infection), elimination of the irritant will reverse the condition. Acidophilus culture, applied six times a day for three days, will help bring the tissue back to health.
